The Western Sydney Wanderers have defeated Blacktown City 2-0 in a behind-closed-doors friendly match last night.

Goals by Roly Bonevacia and Brendan Hamill secured the win for the Red & Black after a solid performance in the team’s fifth week of pre-season.

The Wanderers fielded an experienced side with players such as Oriol Riera, Kearyn Baccus and Hamill taking to the field as well as new signings Bruce Kamau and Tarek Elrich.

The Red & Black started the first half positively, dominating possession and having multiple chances to find the opener through great chances from Bonevacia, Kamau and Riera.

Bonevacia broke the deadlock early in the second half, opening the scoring with a low driven shot past Blacktown City’s keeper.

The Wanderers went on to extend their lead when Hamill rose above Blacktown’s defence, scoring a thumping header from a Kamau corner kick.

The Red & Black’s first competitive fixture of the season will be on Tuesday 7 August against Hellenic AC at Darwin Football Centre in the FFA Cup Round of 32.
